June 24, 2022,

Karaganda, Kazakhstan

The Karaganda Botanical Garden has been an adornment of the Karaganda city since its foundation in the mid-40s of the XX century. Unfortunately, with the collapse of the USSR in the early 90s, the Karaganda Botanical Garden was in an extremely neglected condition.

Realizing the need for a comprehensive solution to the issue of further development of the botanical garden and the need for its full restoration for the city and the region, on June 21, 2022, a Non-profit organization was registered - the Corporate Fund "Karaganda Botanical Garden Development Fund" (hereinafter referred to as the Fund). The Board of Trustees of the Fund includes representatives of the Kazakh Research Institute of Forestry and Agroforestry, the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction, the International Research and Production Holding "Phytochemistry", the Council of Botanical Gardens of Russia RAS. Akimat of Karaganda will act as a co-executor. In cooperation with the Akimat of Karaganda, it is planned to carry out activities to return the status of a specially protected zone of the botanical garden.

The main goal of the Fund is the reconstruction of the Karaganda Botanical Garden, its arrangement as a research facility for the introduction and collection of new plant species, as well as educational and educational work. Currently, preparatory work is underway to develop a master plan for the botanical garden.

Together, we hope to return the role of the main center for the conservation of plant diversity in ex-situ collections and environmental education to the Karaganda Botanical Garden. In addition, the restored botanical garden will serve as a model sustainability organization by promoting the use of sustainable materials and low-carbon daily activities.
